Panaji Plans Mandatory Pet Dog Registration via Digital Platform
Panaji, Goa: Panaji is preparing to introduce mandatory registration for pet dogs through a new digital platform, aimed at creating an official database of dogs and their owners. The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has reviewed a demonstration of the proposed digital pet dog registration system, which is expected to record information such as the dog's vaccination and sterilisation status, along with the owner's details and contact information.
However, the system is not operational yet. The proposal is still being finalised and will require approval before registration becomes mandatory.
How will pet dog registration work in Panaji?
The exact process has not yet been officially announced. Based on the proposed system, pet owners in Panaji are expected to register their dogs digitally by:
- Providing the owner's name and contact details.
- Uploading a photograph of the dog.
- Entering the dog's vaccination status.
- Providing information about whether the dog has been sterilised.
- Submitting the required details through the digital platform.
The proposed application will also capture the GPS location of the photograph, helping CCP maintain location-based records of registered dogs.
CCP has not yet announced the official registration portal, fee, deadline, required documents or penalties for failing to register. Similarly, microchipping has not been confirmed as mandatory under this proposal.
Why is Panaji introducing pet dog registration?
The proposed Panaji pet dog registration system is intended to improve responsible pet ownership and give civic authorities a clearer record of owned dogs in the city.
The database could help CCP monitor vaccination and sterilisation status while supporting animal-welfare initiatives, including sterilisation and subsidised anti-rabies vaccination through animal-welfare organisations. The move also comes against Goa's wider efforts to improve pet dog management, sterilisation, vaccination and stray-dog control.
For now, pet owners do not need to register through a new CCP portal because the system has not been launched. Owners should wait for the corporation's official notification for the final dog registration rules in Panaji, including the launch date and registration requirements.
