LMC Advisory on Dog Feeding, Licensing and Sterilisation

Lucknow: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has issued a new advisory to control how community dogs are fed, to make pet licensing compulsory, and to encourage animal birth control. The civic body says these steps are meant to balance the care of animals with the concerns of people who face problems from unregulated feeding.

As per the advisory, feeding of stray or community dogs will now only be allowed at fixed spots chosen by the corporation. This rule has been introduced to avoid fights in colonies where people often complained about feeding near their gates or on roads. By setting up clear feeding areas, the LMC wants to make sure residents are not disturbed while animals still get food in a safe and proper way.

The rules also ask all pet owners to get licences for their dogs. This will not only help regulate ownership but also give the corporation correct data about the dog population in the city. With this data, vaccination and rabies control drives can be carried out more effectively. Pet owners who do not follow the licensing rules may face penalties, showing how serious the civic body is about this measure.

Another important point in the advisory is dog sterilisation. The LMC has asked citizens, feeders, and resident welfare groups to support sterilisation drives. Officials explained that uncontrolled breeding of stray dogs is a big reason behind their rising numbers in the city. Sterilisation, along with vaccination, is being promoted as a safe and humane way to reduce the population and control aggressive behaviour among unneutered dogs.

People who regularly feed stray dogs have also been asked to register with the corporation and follow certain rules. These include not causing trouble to others while feeding, keeping the feeding area clean, and helping with sterilisation and vaccination programmes. By doing this, the LMC wants to bring some order to feeding practices which were earlier unregulated.

The advisory has received mixed responses. Many pet owners and animal lovers have welcomed the guidelines for bringing clarity, while others are worried about restrictions on feeding places. Civic officials, however, say these rules are needed to allow people and animals to live peacefully together. Through these steps, the LMC aims to ensure proper care of animals while also protecting public health and maintaining harmony in communities.
