Tambaram Corp to Launch Pet License Registration App

Chennai: People who reside in the jurisdiction of the Tambaram Corporation areas will soon be able to register their pets and obtain a license on an app.
Initially launched in 2023 by the Greater Chennai Corporation, the app only received 100 applications. However, after recent events where two rottweilers attacked a child at a park in the GCC’s jurisdiction, the portal has seen more than 1,000 registrations. The GCC noted that some applications were rejected due to incomplete information provided.

Rajini Gunasekar, a resident of Perangalathur, said “I tried to apply for a pet license for my dog with GCC a few days ago, but the papers were not processed. As there’s no system in place in Tambaram Corporation, we hoped to get a license with GCC,” she said. Many pet owners failed to obtain a registration license, as they were outside of the GCC’s jurisdiction.

Arul Anand, senior health officer of Tambaram Corporation, said the new app would resemble that of the GCC. Pet owners will need to sign in and provide details of their pets like the breed, age, sex, and age. Documents regarding address data and proof of vaccination will also need to be uploaded. Once the details are approved and a registration fee paid, the license will be approved and will need to be renewed yearly. “We expect around 5,000 applications from Monday. We must also conduct campaigns in all five zones for responsible pet ownership”, he continued.

“The data will help us understand the pet population distribution,” said Dr Shakthi Devi, the corporation’s veterinarian. “This will also help us track vaccination efforts in each zone. We will conduct street dog surveys and anti-rabies vaccination campaigns in all 70 wards,” she said. This will be the first pet database that the Tambaram corporation will have.
