Pune Plans to Open its First Pet Park Soon

Pune: Pet lovers in Pune can rejoice, as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is gearing up to open the city’s first ever pet park. Located near the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in the Katraj area, the park will be developed on a 3.5-acre plot.

Dr Sarita Funde, Veterinary Superintendent, PMC said, “Currently, there are no government parks for pets in Maharashtra. Hence, the PMC has decided to start a park where all pets will come and have a good time. As of now, the PMC is inspecting the allotted 3.5-acre site, then the tendering and all other formalities will be completed post which the construction work will begin. We have been allocated a fund of Rs 1 crore from the PMC for the entire project.”

According to the information provided by Dr Funde, the park shall be developed using a PPP or public private partnership strategy. The space was allocated once it as confirmed that no other civic projects were scheduled for the space, and the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) has since agreed to set up a park on site.

The amenities of the park include a jogging track, playground, swimming pool, grooming salon, pet clinic, parking, and more. The PMC has stated the park will take roughly a year to a year-and-a-half to complete, after which pets and pet parents are welcome to have a great time together.
