Pet Crematorium in Delhi SDMC’s Humane Attempt for Strays

A recent announcement by South Delhi Municipal Corporation caught fire quickly and left all the pet lovers in awe and the news made it to the headlines. In an attempt to do right by the stray animals, SDMC is creating a crematorium in Dwarka Sector 29 and is expected to start it’s services from April, 2022 onwards. This crematorium is not just open to stray animals, and can be utilized by pet owners to cremate their pets in exchange for a small price of Rs 2000 if a pet animal weighs less than 30 kilograms and Rs 3000 will be charged if a pet weighs more than 30 kilograms. As per the announcement, stray dogs from areas falling under SDMC will be cremated free of cost, and an amount of Rs 500 will be charged for cremating stray dogs from the area under other civic bodies. It is the initiative like this which restores everyone’s faith in humanity. This step by SDMC should set a benchmark for our country and inspire people nationwide to participate in initiatives for the welfare of stray animals living in societies. What different NGOs and pet shelters are doing should also be done in individual capacity. To quote Barack Obama, “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek”. A truly applause worthy initiative by SDMC.
