Lucknow to Build Electric Crematorium for Pets and Strays
Lucknow: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has issued a work order for the construction of an electric crematorium for pets and stray animals, moving forward with a long-pending project aimed at providing a dedicated and hygienic facility for the disposal of animal remains in the city.
The proposed pet crematorium is expected to become Lucknow's first such facility and will serve both pet owners and civic authorities handling deceased stray animals. The project was approved earlier but faced delays due to administrative and land-related issues.
According to civic officials, the crematorium will help address the growing need for a structured system to manage animal remains in a city with a large pet and stray animal population. The facility is also expected to improve sanitation and provide a more environmentally friendly alternative to existing disposal methods.
Reports suggest that Lucknow has thousands of registered pets, in addition to a significant number of unregistered companion animals. The city also deals with the disposal of stray animal remains, creating a need for dedicated infrastructure to handle the process safely and efficiently.
The electric crematorium is expected to support ongoing animal welfare efforts while offering pet owners a dignified option for saying goodbye to their pets. Once operational, the facility will help streamline the management of animal remains and strengthen pet care infrastructure in the city.
The issuance of the work order marks an important step in the implementation of the project, with construction expected to begin following the completion of necessary procedures by the civic body.
