LMC to impose ?5,000 Fine If Your Pet is Unregistered in Lucknow

Lucknow: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has initiated action against pet owners who have failed to get a license for their pets or have not renewed their pet licenses. From 22 May 2024 onwards, the LMC can penalize pet parents for not cooperating with the registration las of the city.

On the first day of the drive, the LMC fined six dog owners for non-renewed licenses and fined each of them for ?2,000. The LMC’s enforcement team carried out inspections in Butler Palace, Riverfront colony, Jiamau and other nearby areas like parks and spaces where pet owners walk their dogs.

Animal welfare officer at LMC, Dr Abhinav Verma said, “On the first day, we showed leniency by charging only half of the stipulated fine (Rs 5,000). This drive will continue until all pet owners comply with the regulations.” He also said that only 864 licences have been issued in the current financial year compared to 5,600 last year and 8,200 in the year before that.

Dr Verma encouraged pet parents to complete the registration and renewal formalities. “For renewal, they must produce a sterilization certificate, along with the vaccination certificate of the pet,” he said. Pet licences are made at Bhopal House in Lalbagh. For enquiries, you can call Jayant Singh (9411156792) and Afsar Ali (9721095021).

The LMC is said to conduct random checks for licenses and registration at pet selling shops and pet breeders as well. “The violators will face a fine of Rs 5,000 per dog,” he said; “Taking unlicensed pet dogs to parks and public places is prohibited to prevent public nuisances,” he added.
