Hyderabad Airport Rolls Out Therapy Dog Program to Ease Passenger Stress
Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has introduced a new initiative aimed at reducing travel-related stress. Four certified toy poodles are now part of a “Therapy Dog Programme,” available to passengers at both domestic and international terminals. The dogs, accompanied by trained handlers, will be on duty from Friday to Monday for four hours each day, stationed at high-traffic areas including security and departure lounges.
Travellers can opt in for calming petting sessions, play fetch in a designated area with small toys, or snap photos in a special selfie zone. The interaction is strictly voluntary and conducted under supervision, with regular breaks built in to ensure the dogs remain relaxed and comfortable.
Passengers are encouraged to follow basic etiquette around the therapy animals: approach gently, follow handler guidance, and avoid feeding or sudden gestures. Those with allergies or concerns are advised to maintain distance, while families are expected to monitor their children closely during interactions.
With this initiative, RGIA hopes to create a more positive and emotionally supportive travel environment, using trained dogs to uplift moods and ease tension before take-off.
