Etihad Rail Now Allows Pets on Passenger Trains in the UAE

Travelling with pets within the UAE is set to become more convenient. Etihad Rail has confirmed that passengers can now bring domestic pets, including dogs and falcons, on board its passenger trains, provided they travel inside an approved carrier. The move introduces a new public transport option for pet owners travelling between emirates and marks an important step towards more pet-friendly domestic travel in the UAE.

For residents, expats and visitors exploring the country with their pets, the announcement means there is now an alternative to travelling exclusively by road. While the policy applies only to domestic journeys, it offers greater flexibility for short trips once pets are already in the UAE.

Under Etihad Rail's guidelines, domestic pets must remain inside an approved carrier measuring no more than 55 × 40 × 23 cm throughout the journey. Each passenger may bring one pet carrier, which also counts as their cabin baggage allowance. Trained and certified assistance dogs are permitted but must be booked in advance through the Etihad Rail Contact Centre.

Etihad Rail has not yet announced whether regular pets will require advance booking or if additional charges, vaccination requirements, weight limits or breed-specific restrictions will apply. Travellers should check for the latest updates before planning their journey.

The introduction of pet-friendly rail travel reflects the UAE's growing focus on making travel more accessible for pet owners.
