Chennai Pet Licence Deadline Extended till June 15: GCC Warns INR 5,000 Fine for Unregistered Pets
Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has extended the Chennai pet licence registration and renewal deadline till June 15, 2026. Pet owners who fail to register or renew their pets before the deadline could face an INR 5,000 fine from June 16 onwards. The rule applies to both pet dogs and cats within Chennai corporation limits.
According to GCC data, over 78,000 pet licences have already been issued, while nearly 10,000 licences are still pending renewal. The corporation had earlier extended the deadline multiple times due to low compliance and technical issues during the registration process.
The Chennai pet licence registration drive aims to improve responsible pet ownership, maintain anti-rabies vaccination records, and reduce cases of abandoned pets in the city. GCC has also been promoting pet microchipping in Chennai to help identify lost pets and track vaccination history more efficiently.
To make the process easier for residents, GCC is currently offering free pet microchipping and anti-rabies vaccination services at several corporation veterinary centres across the city.
Some of the GCC centres where pet owners can access these services include:
- Tiruvottiyur
- Chettimedu
- Kannappar Thidal
- Thiru Vi Ka Nagar
- Pulianthope
- Lloyds Colony
- Nungambakkam
- Kannammapet
- Meenambakkam
Pet owners can complete the process through the official GCC Veterinary Department portal Those looking for a detailed step-by-step guide can check our article on Chennai pet licence online registration. With stricter enforcement expected after June 15, pet owners are advised to complete their GCC pet licence registration or renewal before the deadline to avoid penalties.
