Ahmedabad to Get 2 New Pet Cremation Facilities as Demand for Dog Cremation Services Rises

Ahmedabad, Gujarat: Ahmedabad is preparing to expand its pet cremation services as the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) plans to set up two new pet cremation facilities in the city. The decision comes after a steady increase in demand for organised pet cremation in Ahmedabad.

At present, the city has one operational pet crematorium in Behrampura. According to officials, this CNG based facility has already been used for over 100 dog cremations since it began operations. Authorities have also noted that pet owners from nearby cities are using the service, highlighting a growing need for such facilities in the region. 

To improve access, AMC has proposed building two additional pet crematoriums, one in the eastern part of Ahmedabad and another in the western zone. A budget of around INR 60 lakh has been allocated for the project. Once completed, these facilities are expected to make pet cremation services more easily available across different parts of the city.

The existing Behrampura unit uses a CNG based cremation system designed to reduce smoke and odour, making it more suitable for urban areas. Officials have indicated that future facilities are likely to follow similar standards, keeping environmental concerns in mind.

Data from the civic body shows that Ahmedabad has over 19,000 registered pet dogs. The increasing use of the current crematorium, along with the number of registered pets, points to a rising demand for structured pet aftercare services, including dog cremation in Ahmedabad.

The new facilities are expected to help reduce waiting time and provide pet owners with a more accessible option during difficult moments. With this expansion, Ahmedabad continues to develop organised and eco-conscious pet cremation infrastructure, a service that is still limited in many parts of India.

Officials have not yet announced a timeline for completion, but the proposal marks a step towards strengthening pet funeral services in Ahmedabad and addressing the city’s growing needs.
