Abu Dhabi Introduces Mandatory Pet Registration with Dh1,000 Penalty
Abu Dhabi has announced that starting February 3, 2026, all dog and cat owners must register their pets under the government’s official animal ownership system. Pet owners who fail to comply will face a Dh1,000 fine.
Authorities say the new requirement aims to encourage responsible pet ownership, improve animal welfare, and create a centralized database of pets across the emirate. Pet owners are being urged to complete registration as early as possible to avoid penalties and ensure their animals are properly documented.
The registration process is designed to be straightforward, with options to register online through the TAMM portal - click here or via licensed veterinary clinics in Abu Dhabi.
How to Register Your Pet
Pet owners can choose the registration method that works best for them.
Online Registration via TAMM Portal
Owners can register their pets from home using the official TAMM platform. The process requires logging in with UAE Pass, entering pet details, uploading supporting documents, and submitting the application. Once processed, confirmation of registration is sent to the owner.
Registration at Veterinary Clinics
Licensed veterinary clinics across Abu Dhabi can also handle pet registration. Clinic staff will assist in verifying your pet’s microchip and vaccination records, complete the registration process, and provide confirmation once it’s finalized.
Documents Required
Having all documents ready will help avoid delays or rejection of the application. To ensure smooth registration, owners should have the following:
- Emirates ID of the pet owner
- A photo of the pet
- Proof of address
- Veterinary medical report
- Passport
- Official import permit or letter (if the pet was brought from abroad)
Abu Dhabi’s new pet registration system is a key step in improving animal welfare and public safety. By keeping a record of all pets, authorities can ensure animals are vaccinated, healthy, and accounted for, and owners are held responsible for their pets. The system also helps reduce the risks of lost or abandoned animals in the community.
Pet owners with dogs or cats are encouraged to register their pets as soon as possible, either online or through a licensed veterinary clinic, to avoid fines and make sure their animals are officially recognized under Abu Dhabi law.
