Punjab Government Makes Dog Breeders & Pet Shop Registrations Mandatory
Punjab: The Punjab government has made it mandatory for all dog breeders and pet shops in the state to get themselves registered under the state’s Pashu Bhalai Board. The decision comes shortly after a meeting of Pashu Bhalai Board on Friday, which was chaired by Minister of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Gurmeet Singh Khudian.
The minister also said the dog owners and pet shops will be registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules 2016. This move aims to foster responsible pet breeding practices and prevent cruelty to animals in the state.
The board stated it would monitor and regulate the functioning of pet breeders and pet shops, making sure they comply with the established pet health standards for their well-being. From their living conditions, to care, diet, exercise, and overbreeding, the board stated that it would encourage ethical marketing practices are used for pets like dogs and cats.
