Alaska Airlines Pet Policy
Alaska Airlines is a pet friendly flight operator, providing pet travel both in-cabin and in-cargo to pet parents travelling on board. Here are the rules you’ll need to comply with to fly with your pet aboard an Alaska Airlines flight.
Pet Travel In-Cabin
Smaller pets can travel in the cabin with passengers (subject to space availability on board). Bookings for the same must be made before the intended day of travel as reservations are made on a first-come-first-serve basis. Pet travel charges for in-cabin journeys are $100 USD/CAD each way.
- You must be 18 years or above to travel with your pet in the cabin.
- You may not be seated in an emergency exit row or bulkhead row when travelling with a pet.
- Your pet falls within your allotted carry-on baggage. You can bring a pet carrier and a personal item or a pet carrier and a standard size carry-on bag.
- The First-Class cabin can accommodate three pet carriers per flight, while the Main Cabin can accommodate eight pet carriers per flight.
- You can travel with two pet carriers in the main cabin, provided you purchase a second ticket for the seat adjacent to yours.
- Only dogs, cats, rabbits, and household birds are permitted in the Main Cabin.
- Dogs and cats must be at least eight weeks old and must have been fully weaned and accustomed to take solid food. They must do this without nursing for at least five days before being eligible for travel.
- The pet must stay in its carrier (including head and tail) with the door/flap always secured in the boarding area (during boarding and deplaning), Alaska Lounge, and while onboard the aircraft.
- The pet carrier must be stowed under the seat during taxi, take-off and landing.
- Up to two pets of the same species and similar size may travel in the same carrier, provided no body parts protrude from the carrier and the animals are not in distress.
- Animals who smell or create excessive noise must travel in the climate-controlled baggage compartment.
- Pets travelling internationally may require additional documentation.
