Akasa Air Increased Permissible Pet Weight Limit in Cabin

Delhi: Akasa air has increased the in-cabin weight limit for pets in domestic flights. Passengers of Akasa air can now carry pets that weigh up to 10 kilograms. The airline said the change was implemented following feedback from passengers.

The airline initially introduced the provisions for pet transportation on domestic flights in November 2022, which allowed dogs and cats to travel either in cabin or in the cargo hold. "As part of the enhancements, Akasa Air now allows customers to travel with pets weighing up to 10 kg (including the weight of the container) in the cabin -- an increase from the previous limit of 7 kg. This change has been introduced keeping customer feedback in mind, reflecting the airline's commitment to continuously enhance its services to meet the evolving travel needs of its customers," said the airline.

Pets weighing up to 32 kg are allowed to travel in the cargo hold. According to figures released by Akasa air, 3,200 pets have been transported since the service was opened to the public. Aside from Akasa Air, only Air India permits pets to travel in cabin. SpiceJet also allows pets to travel on board, but only as cargo. Other carriers such as Indigo currently have no provisions for pet travel in either cargo or cabin.
